A seven-year-old boy fell onto the metro tracks in Prague, and he was only seconds away from tragedy. Then one of the passengers, without hesitation, jumped in after the child. After everything, the man left before the police arrived at the scene. The Czech services referred to him only as a “foreigner.” Nowiny Wschodnie contacted the Prague police directly to ask who the mysterious hero was. We have received an answer now.
The dangerous incident took place on September 1 at the Muzeum metro station in Prague. The seven-year-old boy, who was at the station with a family member, was looking at his phone and did not notice the edge of the platform. At one point he found himself on the tracks.
The surveillance video shows the immediate reaction of people on the platform. One of the men jumped onto the tracks to help the boy. The other passengers helped pull the child back onto the platform, and one person activated the emergency stop.
According to the Czech police, it all happened within a few seconds. The approaching train was already very close. The boy was rescued and taken to hospital with minor injuries to his arm.
Who was the man who jumped onto the tracks?
In the first official statement, the Czech police used the term “cizinec” in reference to him, meaning “foreigner.” However, they did not give his name or nationality.
Nowiny Wschodnie therefore contacted the Press Department of the Prague Metropolitan Police Headquarters directly with questions about the man’s identity and origin.
We received a response from Maj. Eva Kropáčová of the Prague police.
The police told us that when officers arrived at the scene, the man who jumped down onto the tracks to help the boy was no longer there. His identity could not be determined.
However, there is a new detail. Based on accounts from other witnesses, the officers established that he was a Spanish-speaking tourist.
Since the police do not know his identity, they could not thank him in person. As Nowiny Wschodnie was told, thanks were conveyed to him through the media.
This does not mean, however, that the man was Spanish. The police confirmed only that witnesses described him as a tourist who spoke Spanish. His citizenship remains unknown.
